Shallot porn

On liner lock/frame lock release cut outs on Kershaws; I see a lot of people prefer a large cut out but I myself would rather it not be so easy to disengage the lock. I see that big cut out on some knives as an accident waiting to happen. That Shallot is gorgeous. I'll bet it will sharpen nicely on a Tri angle or Croc Stick style system. I've been using a Croc Stick system to keep the recurve blades I have touched up and it works wonderfully. Nice score.

My Shallot has arrived !
...
Without a doubt this was the worst edge I ever saw on a factory knife.

Hard as S110V is, I wasn't very successful sharpening it with my DMT sharpener, but today I took it over to my dad and he was able to put a keen edge on it, shaving sharp. He has a very narrow belt grinder and with a very smooth grit sandpaper is able to make anything sharp.
Interesting. My oct08 shallot (riding in my waist band) is as sharp as everyone elses.

But it's good to see your attitude on getting it sharp. We're knife knuts, right? Sharpening knives is what we do. No big deal. :D:thumbup:

That is true. Being harder to disengage makes it safer, being less prone to accidental disengagement. BUT I think that would only happen in hard use, and being an EDC folder I don't see this knife being heavily used.

It coming dull out of the box is not something that would make me shy of buying another Kershaw, not at all. It would be like getting mad at Mercedes because my CSL came with an under-inflated left tire ;). But I have to confess I'm no expert sharpener, I still have a LOT to learn . My dad is waaaaaaay better at sharpening then I am.

No, mine was totally dull. No biggie as I said, since now it's shaving sharp, but I expected it to have come at least sharp, maybe not a razor, but sharp enough to easily cut paper.

I believe you, duds happen. This is probably why the previous owner let go of it, because it was not sharp and he couldn't begin to sharpen it. Sucks for him, good for you.

Next thing you need to do is get a low-ride. It really makes the knife disappear in your pocket.

Great! I didn't know STR made them. Let my cc cool down (this was an expensive month ) and I'll see if he can make me one.
