Shallot, what a...

when i tried the shallot in the store it seemed to open slow with the speedsafe i got the leek instead, as a unemployed 14 year old money to buy knives is hard to get.

Any given knife can be a bit sluggish when it's new. I have found Kershaw QC is good, but playing with a new toy will usually do it, or loosening the pivot and lubricating it. I know that's hard to judge in a store. On the other hand, going by my G10 S30V Leek, you got a good knife anyway.

Love the Shallot. It opens fast and locks up very well. I have yet to EDC my S110v one, but it will definitely get some pocket time.

Excellent knife, well worth the price.

Pluses:
-Lock up is very solid.
-Fit and finish is perfect.
-AO is not the fastest but it's smooth, locks every single time.
-Excellent ergonomics.
-Slim profile.
-Both tip up and tip down carry
-Cutting edge is actually longer than blade length (blade length is measured from tip of blade to tip of handle).
-Looks simple and pretty.
-Available with the best super steels today (ZDP-189 and S110V).

Minuses:
-Feels a bit heavy for a 3.5" blade at 4.2 Oz. YMMV.
-Bead blasted SS frame can be slippery.
-No holes for lefty clip.

Get it now or forget it -- very limited supply of a one-time run.

On the other hand, many versions of the Shallot should be with us a looong time! :D

I have yet to try a shallot but I'd love to, it seems like a good knife and awfully inexpensive for the high quality you get.
Get the g10 tyrade, they are making a handful of them and after that it's done. Expect to pay quite a bit in a couple months when they are all being privately sold, Get them now while they're cheap.

Hmm... I wouldn't mind a G10 Shallot. Come on Kershaw I'm sure you read knife forums for opinions on your products. ;)

I'll be interested only if they keep the frame lock. It will be like a strider / hinderer; G10 on one side of the frame and metal on the other (the lock side). Just slapping G10 on it will make it even heavier than it already is. Better yet, make the lock side out of titanium. As long as they keep the blade in either ZDP-189 or S110V, I'm willing to pay double their current street price.

Leeks open fast, no doubt. But there's also less mass to get moving, too. Shallots, for the most part, will open faster after they've been played with a bit.

Shallot is fantastic. But I also find it slippery. I wish they had a rougher coating. Tried Pak Skin, and skate tape. Not so good.

I'm sure they could pull it off. I also would be willing to pay double for it.

It's a bit slippery especially when used in my kitchen but I am going to buy some skate tape and cut out some small circles and put them onto the knife where my fingers usually sit and maybe on the outside of the pocket clip. This should make it a little less slick.

Still a super knife. Will have to I think grab the black version as well. I see they are offering the composite zdp unit as well not sure if I will buy that one.
