Shaman KC sprint

Mine arrived today, love the knife. Could use more grip for hard use but it is a looker. Pictures really don’t do it justice.

You guys ready to see something cool? :D

My sheath making buddy, Chad Pirtle (@cpirtle), did a dye job on his Rosewood using some Fiebing's black leather dye. They turned out AWESOME!!!

You would think these scales were made of Walnut!

I might have to give this a try with some RIT this weekend...

Chad did a fantastic job (not surprising). They do look like walnut scales. I just placed an order for the dye. Any advice? I have zero experience in this. I’m thinking complete disassembly and rub on with a soft cloth and sit overnight? I’m guessing I should wear gloves. If they come out poorly I’ll just blame it on inexperience and cancel my sheath orders with Chad. Lol

lol. :p I do not know the details of exactly what he did, just what he used (USMC Black, FILDYM01P032Z). I'm fairly certain that he disassembled it before dying the scales. He used that particular dye because it's what he had available. I think I'm going to try RIT, myself, if I go through with this over the weekend.

That looks WAY nicer than original scales! SpyderPhreak, if you go through with the RIT please post how it went and how you did it. :)

Imagine the disappointment at getting these scales. Neither KC or Spyderco can do anything but refund since it is sold out. Then I have to pay 2x as much on eBay for a replacement.

I'm starting to see this model being called "TreeRex"... LOL! :D

Definitely, will do!

Pic is not working, FYI. 2x on ebay? o_O Why not look here on the exchange, they're being listed only slightly over retail there. ;)

ETA - Fixed your pic:

You forgot to add ".jpg" at the end of the link. :) Help me out, I'm not immediately seeing the issue?

The lines in the middle, looks like a water stain or missing finish. I do woodworking so was really excited for this but that also makes it very noticeable to me

This is a great knife, Sal. And no stress buying it. Thanks.

Well, unfortunately I worked most of the weekend, so did not get a chance to try to dye my TreeRex Shaman. Maybe next weekend after I get home. I might try the Fiebing's dye Chad used too, versus RIT. I could use some of that leather dye anyway. ;)

Hi Steve,

Welcome to our forum.

Hey SpyderPhreak,

Beautiful dye job!

sal

Hi Sal. It is beautiful indeed. It is the work of master leather bender Chad Pirtle of Pirtlemade.  I personally LOVE the Shaman design! :D Thank you for making it a reality!
