I hate to do this but several gun projects force me to do so. This photo, while quite nicely done by Bob Glassman does not do justice to the knife. You can notice a small seperation in the mammoth ivory and maybe some of the bluing that is less than perfect.
I returned the knife to Shayne and he redid it -- everything is perfect and the colors are great. Thus, I can confidently describe it as better than new.
Bob's original description of the knife is lifted as follows:
Knife Specifications: Dragon Mastersmith Test Art Folder
Blade Length: 3.5"
Overall Length: 8.25"
Blade Type: Wharncliffe
Blade Composition: Shane Taylor Blued Dragon Mosaic Damascus
Bolster Composition: Shane Taylor Blued Dragon Mosaic Damascus
Handle Material: Wooly Mammoth Bark Ivory
Locking Mechanism: Liner Lock
Opening: One Handed Opening With a Tiger Eye Mounted Thumb Stud
Other Features : When it comes to the topic of handmade knives and ABS Mastersmiths, Shane Taylor is a household word. Shane must be one of the most well known mastersmiths with a reputation for some of the finest work to come out of Montana. This very special and rare piece is one of Shane's original Master Smith Test Certification art pieces originally made as part of the dragon series for Master Smith qualification. Of course, this piece along with Shane's other test knives passed with flying colors.
Along with this piece's great functional competency, it is also a stunning work of art. The gorgeous blued dragon mosaic sports very interesting and colorful mosaics of dragons and radial type patterns.. You can see several hues of blue, white, brown and orange in this absolutely breathtaking work. The handle scales are very nice mammoth bark ivory with traces of blue, brown, beige and tan. They therefore match the steel in color very nicely. The liners are also heat colored blue and fileworked beautifully as is the damascus backspacer. To top it all off, Shane included an eerie snake eye like tiger eye as a mounted stone in the thumbstud. A choice that is quite fitting and follows the overall theme of this beautifully midevil art knife.
If you are a serious collector of mastersmith folders, this piece should be on your small list of sought after pieces. This is a very rare opportunity to acquire an incredible work such as this which is not just a slice of custom knife history, but also an incredible work of art that would be a great investment.
Offered at $3300.00
