Shank in W-2 and Mammoth Ivory

Awesome John. After seeing these three beauties you've got me thinking about a matched set as well. Great work!

That chopper's so BIG you could run that diagonally across the photo, then the dagger and hunter laid easily in the lower corner.

Then we'd have to place your cat in the upper corner just for some scale and to balance the photo. :p

That's a shank for a country club prison. We have one here in CT.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

The joke about this dagger as a "shank" came first from a friend who saw a pic of the blade alone on his cell phone; he could only see the tang without scrolling, and asked if I'd started making shanks. The thing is, though, the way the little knife fits in your hand leaves no doubt about it's intended function. It's a deadly weapon, period.

Stuart, the short length and tight curves on this one led to an interesting grind job. That's a rolling bevel down the blade, just like a wineglass sailboat frame. I kinda ground this one into the vicinity, and took it the rest of the way with files and stones after hardening. What fun!

Bob, let's do it!

Very nice. John!! I like it!!!

I can imagine what it took to shape that dagger blade; makes me shudder to think of it.

I was thinking how fun it would have been to complete that blade grind. Very impressive as usual.

Love everything you have done with the dagger, John. Sexy and deadly in one body. Great piece.
