Shaping and polishing hammer face

What technique do you guys use to shape and polish your hammer face? I have a few cheapie ball peen and engineers hammers that i'll be using for forging but want to clean them up abit first.
 
I prefer a slight dome shape on my hammers. Polishing depends on what belt happens to be the grinder at the time.
 
I rough them out with a 36 grit, clean up with an 80, and give it a final with 120. main face is domed with rounded edges and corners. Draw face is a fairly tight radius.About the size of a quarter.
