Shapton glass stones

I guess I haven't kept up. I have so many stones and gadgets that I haven't looked for newer things for a couple of years.

I need to get back to my previous level of involvement!

I remember when I first started coming on to this Ben Dover Ben Dover that you were one of the first people to help me,I forget what the problem was that I was having or I wanted to know but you did help,I have often wondered what happened to Ben.

If you have a guided system look at the Venev OCB stones in 400 800 and 1200 they awesome stones and will last a very long time, also look at the Metallic CBN stones by Poltava Diamond Tools.
You can check them out at gritomatic under the brands tab,you really only need the 120 240 and 400 Metallic CBN stones, you won't find a stone that cut's faster then the Metallic CBN stones and they don't tear up the edge really badly either.

I like to use the Metallic stones to do all the heavy lifting and they cut threw S110V and Maxamet like it's butter and don't struggle cutting any steel I have thrown at them, they are costly but they will outlast any water stone many times over and they can be refreshed as well,I haven't to refresh mine but a member on this site said he get's about 350 to 500 sharpening's before needing to refresh them.

The Venev OCB stone do a very impressive job at polishing your edge fr a diamond stone, you would be surprised at how good of a job they do.

If one wishes for a "toothy" ripping edge, diamonds are definitely the way to go.

For a polished, "slicing" edge, well.... not so much.

The Venev stones are rated in FEPA grit and they have a 1200 FEPA stone that is the same as a Japanese 4K stone.

So far, I haven't been able to find diamond Edge-Pro diamond stones finer than 1200 grit. I do get good results polishing with Diamond or CBN paste on strops. CBN paste at .25 micron is truly beautiful.

Id love to have an EP diamond stone in a medium grit, perhaps 5,000, for working blades that I'm not going to polish all the way up to "show off" level.:D

There is no exact conversion due to different tolerances, but roughly speaking FEPA F1200 is equivalent to JIS 4000, not 8000. F2000 is the counterpart to J8000.

You are correct I did not look at my conversion chart I have and just went off the top of my head and I was wrong.
