Hi, Ben. Welcome to Bladeforums!
That haft isn't totally hand made. It started as a Tennessee Hickory Products haft. TH is notorious for making fat axe handles - way too fat - but of the very finest quality hickory. So I just slimmed it down to my liking, first with a 24 grit sanding disc on an angle grinder, then clean-up with a spoke shave and rasps. I was kinda in a hurry on this one as I had just sold my favorite splitting axe to my neighbor.
I knew that axe was something special when I saw it on Ebay. I haven't been disappointed. When I found a second waffle-poll Plumb being sold by Bernie Weisgerber (author of the FS manual 'An Ax to Grind') I couldn't resist and bought the second one. The one I got from Bernie (Old Axeman on these forums) is still on it's original perma-bond handle.
