Ill start i was hiking with my freind Last winter and some a hole i think was illegaly hunting birds with a scatter gun and i dont know if he saw us or not but he was like 200-300 yards away down a very steep hill and we could here the shot hiting the trees a few feet infront of us  so we ran like we were being chased by a bear and an dove behind a small hill. I almost sh!+ my pants that day.

nice story, but at 300 yards away you were pretty safe, but i know the feeling i was squierll hunting once and someone was bird hunting in a field next to the patch of woods i was in and same deal you could hear the shot falling thru the trees.

in this neck of the woods, the drill is take cover and "empty" back...

Charlies right about that, LOL I was sitting next to a tree last Deer season, watching a buck move along the ridge above me, waiting for him to come down so I could get a clean shot.

When suddenly off to my left I hear a ruckus, and a Doe comes high tailing it past me, no more that 10 yards, I let her go and wait, figuring theres another buck chasing her

I can here something walking towards me, following her, so I get ready,,, waiting...waiting...When the MORON, walks over the hill where she came from, tooling along carrying his 3030, not wearing any orange, just some old shabby Camo

What an idiot, if I had been a goob and shot at sounds he would have stayed in that holler, I was so ticked .

He sees me and says, Hey, see any deer? .... :jerkit:

to which I would have replied "No, but I did see the game warden. He is looking for some moron walking around without orange. Seen anyone like that ???? " LOL

Sorry to be a party pooper, but:

Bird shot is only dangerous at about <100 yards. 2 or 3 hundred yards distance equals almost complete safety.

I don't think 7 1/2's will even pop a balloon at 200 yards.

I think running out of the line of fire is reasonable, though. In some circumstances, it could be critical.

Not exactly frighting but exciting.

I'm from South Florida and was fishing during my lunch break right off 27 and Pines Ave in Hollywood.
I was sitting in the sawgrass/weeds on the edge of the canal when a gator apparently thought the grass was greener in the canal I was fishing in and came down the embankment about 10feet from where I was sitting.
I drew my .45 but he never paid me any mind and I kept on fishing with my new friend.

I fished with a water Moccasin under a bridge not long after and we ignored each other as well.

Yes, deer hunting several years back.
Moral of the story 2 guys with 1911's beats 3 meth heads and a snubby 38 any day of the week. No shots fired, just some (3) people re-thinking what the should do.

I always do 3 things now when I go during rifle season.
1) Carry semi-auto hunting rifle, the blacker the better.
2) Pick my areas better.
3) carry a 45.

In Hollywood CA? You sure you weren't at Universal Studios:D Just kidding man I have been to Hollywood FL. I feel comfortable around Gators as long as I am not in the water with them.

Another exciting one......

I was hiking in Grand Gulch Utah on Cedar Mesa going back to the truck along a road. About 100 yeards ahead I saw a couple of small animals. Maybe coyotes I had figured at the time. Well, I got back to the truck, looked to my right and about 50ish feet away was a full grown mountain lion staring me down. I just got in the truck and it walked away but I realized that those coyotes were likely cubs belonging to the mom or dad lion.

It was quite exciting and I was extremely lucky to see one. that was 5 years ago and I have gone back there a few times since.....never seen a mountain lion since.

Two for ya.

First, my bird dog went on point and when told to get it he did, and it was a black bear.
To close for comfort but the three of us all left unhurt.

Second, a Friend and I are kicking back on a large rock fishing for smallies in the BWCA.
Absolutely beautiful day, any how I notice the water kinda jumping around way out in the lake and it seemed to be coming are way, odd I thought.
So the jumping water gets to our rock and the biggest freaking spider I've every seen in my life runs to within inches of me and stops, I'm not talking the size of a .50 piece more like the size of a smaller pancake. Well I jump about 4 feet in the air and my buddy is laughing his tail off until he sees it and go's into OH CHIT mode, it then went back into the water and sat on the side of our rock about 2 feet under, unbelievable. We saw 3 more of them that day and decided that they could have the rock. I'd of let them have the lake too but we were banging the smallies left and right and leaving wasn't a option.

The spiders ended up being some type of fishing spider now that I know it's not poisonous I don't think my reaction would be any different.

-dealing with people beating their children or wifes in the woods behind my dads, I hate people that abuse the weak

this one isnt as much scary as it is a close call:
target shooting a bow in my back yard, and right as i release my arrow, a stray dog bolts out of nowhere and right in front of my target. luckily, i missed him though.

i was hunting coyote in sagebush country on the west slope of Colorado on BLM land. it was late in the afternoon, i was hunting just before sundown, if they were out huntin up food at dusk.

I was in my ghillie suit and settled in nicely, enjoying the view down the valley. im there about 30-40 minutes when i start hearing .22's going off somewhere behind me. didnt bother me much , they were about 300 yards away or so and i was a few feet down from the top of the little ridge.

couple of minutes later, i hear a BIG "BOOM!!!" and i get showered with dirt and stones from the top of the ridge. more shots went off and i decided that the day wasnt just right for hunting and boogied out of there . i had to walk around the ridge and got back to my truck/camp. i saw where they were and they were target shooting out over a 100 yard finger that overlooked another smaller valley . they had absolutely on backdrop. i packed up and dee-dee'd the heck outta there. got my adrenaline going pretty nice. --- Eric

once when i was a kid i was shooting my bow and thought it'd be ok to point it in the air since i have a pretty big yard. It doesn't have a heavy draw, nor did i draw it all the way back...but appearantly compounds can pack a punch.

The arrow flew over the trees towards several houses and i was terrified that i'd hit a person or a house. Fortunately I found the arrow laying on the road (about 100yds away) and it didn't damage anything.
