Sharp edge on thumb holes

I have been a long time Spyderco aficionado, but I've noticed over the years that their thumb holes have gotten sharper around the edge. I sent one knife back to Spyderco to have it smoothed out, but I have a couple more that also have somewhat sharp edges around the holes and I just purchased a new Delica that definitely has a sharp edge around its thumb hole. What can I do to smooth them out without resorting to sending them back to the manufacturer?

Greetings. There was a thread that discussed this same thing, but don't remember where it was. A couple of folks used the sharpmaker white rods to smooth it out. They may have also used the round ceramic stones as well. I used the white stones to smooth out my dragonfly, and it worked quite well, IMHO. So if you have a sharpmaker, that'd probably be the way to go.

*edit* They may have used the gray stones instead of the white. I don't remember :D

Simple, cheap, solution is a sheet of 200 grit wet or dry sandpaper rolled into a cone and twisted in the hole a few times from each side. If you're pressing hard enough to deform the paper, you're pressing too damn hard.

FWIW, they're left that way on purpose as a grip aid for opening. No problem for macho men with callused thumbs, but for pencil pushing wimps like me, they can be a bit much, so I've cleaned up quite a few of them. :D

The DEACON-----Delivers!! Great solution. I like that hole a little bitey.

I personally prefer them sharper. It did take me a little while to get used to my Dragonfly (my first Spydie) and develop a bit of a bit of a callous on my thumb though. I have an old C01 worker that I found in a used car that I bought. I actually have trouble opening it sometimes because the edges are too smooth.

If you want to get fancy about it, you can buy a simple Dremel from wally world for ~$20. It should come with a ceramic cone shaped bit. Use that bit and start rounding off the edges. Then if you REALLY want to get fancy, you can start buying new attatchment bits for it and then you can get creative, like waving half of the knives that you own, oops, that was me :D:o.
