Hi!
Got my first Endura yesterday, a grey FFG, and wanted to share some of my experiences with it. It is my second Spyderco, the first is a Para 2, so that is the only one I can compare to.

Opening/closing - not as smooth as the Para 2, there is some resistance, like a spring, in the initial fase of opening. The same force is making the blade snap shut when I'm closing it, like. SAK. I cant flip this one open, not yet anyway.

The backlock - I have never used a backlock before, but theres is no play in any direction and it feels good. I think I prefer the comp lock because of smooth opening and onehand closing, but its more than good enough.

Sharpness - I used it a bit today , and noticed how sharp the edge was. I compared it to the Para 2 and some Emersons on some cardboard and plastic wraps, and it just glided through. No competition at all, Endura was the undisputed winner.

I touched it up on the sharpmaker afterwards (just because, didn't really need it), and used the 30 deg inclusive setting. The factory grind was so thin that the 30 deg only made a microbevel. It is awesome! And it explains the sharpness!

I bought it for use at work, together with the Emerson Commander (combo edge). The plan was to use the Com for the heavy work, and the Endura for the rest. Haven't desided if I will follow through with that plan or use the Para 2 instead, but it's def gonna get used.

Congrats on a great knife!
I have 2, Gray like yours and a black combo edge.
Excellent all arounders!!
Keep flicking it......it will loosen up and one hand opening will happen!
My Enduras and Pac Salt flick open easily!
Enjoy it!
Joe

It feels great! I have held back on getting it because I didn't think it could get better than the para 2, but if it proves itself it will open the door to so many knives I have wanted to try, but hesitated with: Delica, Dragonfly, Ladybug, Salt-series..

..and this comes on top of the Emerson addiction..

I just bought the same knife last month. The action does smooth out over time. Mine came with an extremely sharp blade. It is easily the sharpest blade out of box I've ever had. I'm very happy with every Spyderco I've ever purchased.

It's addicting! Especially after the last Esee's and Emersons. Yes, they came sharp, but not Endura-sharp! I like Spyderco:)

If you like the size of the endura and you like the PM2 then you are in need of a Military! Its my favorite of all folders, any company. The most recent version with the stepped stop pin is the nicest yet.

I bought my pops an endura (his first Spydie) and he described it as a straight razor!

Congratulations!
I also like Endura (graduated from Byrd Cara Cara), and have several. You should try the ZDP version (available) or get HAP40 (from the Exchange, not sure which dealer still has it).

As rolf said it: "You're in knife heaven", he even started this thread

Couldn't agree more!! If you want another Spydie.......a Millie is an excellent choice!!!
I have a Cruwear and a Ti.......fantastic flicker that locks up amazingly tight! So comfortable in hand! One of Spydie's best!!

The full flat grind versions are just wicked cutters. No matter what knives I have, there's always an Endura or Delica.

The Military looks tempting. I also want to try a Spyderedge. And I also like the look on that comboedge Endura!

The place where I bought it aldo had the ZDP in stock, but I went with VG10 because I've read its softer/easier to sharpen. With the ZDP, "all" you gain is edge retention, at the cost of much more sharpening time?

Some shots of my Militarys...

They do look good :) How do you like the linerlock compared to The Endura backlock? And do you think it's worth the double price?

With ZDP, if you touch up the blade on a loaded canvas strop (with 0.5 micron diamond compound) when you heavy use it, it won't need to be sharpened. Period.

Well I prefer the liner lock because I frequently wear gloves at work and the military was designed for use with gloves. As for the value, I feel that the ENDURA is one of the highest performance to cost ratios on the market right now! I wish the military was less expensive. Less than $150 would be nice. There is no reason it should cost more than a PM2. But for me, there is no better folder than a Millie, so I pay up.

If you're happy with the VG10 performance, there's no need to upgrade.
I found for my use, ZDP keeps that high level of sharpness longer. ZDP does require more care during sharpening such as light touch on DMT. VG10 is also much more stainless than ZDP.
