Sharp knife surprise

I sharpened Dad's switch blade last night, along with all his kitchen knives, using my paper wheel set up. Only a couple of the kitchen knives were used so far but Dad got a nice surprise when he went to use his switch blade this afternoon :D I guess he didn't know I did that one. I got an e-mail while I was at work about it.

Sometimes its the small things that matter. It feels good putting a smile on someones face, and for those that use knives having one that cuts well is a good thing.

To that point, I can't tell you how destroyed the edges were on Dad's knives. He says he "drags them across a stone every once in a while". I'm wondering what stone he picked out of the yard... (that's a joke, hes got a couple wet stones but I don't know anything about them). What ever he had done to the knives was atrocious. Maybe the sharpening will have to be a gift that keeps on giving. I know he isn't going to do it and they all eventually will go back to crap.

That all having been said, I am still not impressed with the edge the grit wheel and slotted wheel combined do. My Edge Pro puts a much better edge on, then combining that with a polish on the slotted wheel is a pretty hard combo to beat on most of the steels I've worked with (nothing fancy). The steels it doesn't work well on I can strop with diamonds.
