Sharp Knife

have you smoked out of it?

I no longer smoke, but if I had one of those, I would take it up again- just so I could sit around and puff on a tomahawk in public.

my friend bobs dad who was a gunsmith worked up a load using a mix of black powder and smokeless for a 45-70. i found it one day on a box that he loaded. then bob found the scoops he made that were marked black on one and the name of the smokeless on the other. it was an accurate load with little smoke. i made up about 100 mid week for each weekends match. if you are interested i can get the recipe and bullet weight used. you might be able to work up a comparable load from that. it would make for a little cleaner shooting if you had one. do you mold your own bullets?

Wow....sure is purty....purty damn big! Good movie too, haven't seen it in years but I can remember a few scenes that are just classic Tom S. Nice guy too, good gun totin American. Thanks for the pics Skunk, that blade ain't half bad either.;)

That is a NICE Shiloh Sharps. (with a H at the end) It ain't no Quigley though. It doesn't have a patch box and the barrel is half round. Quigley's had a color case hardened receiver. The finish on the receiver is called French Grey. With the better quality wood, the French Grey, the pewter tip and the sights, you're looking at around $3000 these days. It makes mine look plumb ugly.

The top rifle is a fairly new #3 sporter in .38-55. It has a heavy 28" barrel.

The other one is a .45-70 Business rifle. It has a round 28" heavy barrel. It also has color case hardening, but a lot of it is worn off from use.
