I was exited to get my new knife in the mail today! 😃I had been expecting a Maxace Goliath 2.0, it arrived sooner than I planned and I snatched up the package on the way out the door to do some shopping with the missus!
The package felt all squishy, like it was wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap, like the last few knives I'd received via mail.🤔
Clutching my new prize, I strapped into the passenger seat, whipped out my Civivi Aticus that was already in my pocket and with eager abandon slashed open my new treasure.😎
Once the plastic parted to reveal my new knife, I realised the true extent of my eager stupidity.
I had mistaken bubble wrap for the nicely padded twin knife zipper pouch kindly inculded by Maxace knives🙄
I completely destroyed it 🤨, a huge clean slash down one side of the nice little zipper pouch!
🙄
Has anyone else here been as "eager" or just outright stoopid!! as me, when opening knife mail??

Can't say that I have ...
I only cut along the taped seams/edges of a box, just deep enough to sever the tape, or inside 1/4 inch of the edge of padded envelopes.

Deep cut down the center? Never. Too great a chance (or probability) of damaging what's inside that I've waited too long for already.
"Saving" a second or two opening the package by being careless isn't worth it to me.

Can your better 3/4 to 123/124 repair the pouch using curved upholstery needles?

Never. I carefully cut open any package because I don't know what is inside besides the item, of course. The padded envelopes are sometimes folded over and taped into a "taco" for smaller items and held in that shape with tape. Carefully cut that tape, unfold it and easily cut the envelope open with no damage to anything. With boxes, control the depth of the cut or use a box cutter to slice the tape.

I have damaged things opening them with my blades a bit too aggressively but I probably wouldn't be too bummed about one of those zip cases I have started throwing them out. Kizer sends their knives in them, so does Civivi, massdrop does as well...as a result I have far too many and they aren't that convenient for storing knives anyways.

no. I'm always over cautious due to different styles of packaging done by different people. including opening the box so knife box isn't right there below it even with the 4 tab carton design.

I haven't done anything that extreme, but I do remember a story about an over eager medic that disregarded the warnings about opening a package with a knife while at the hospital and spilled a couple of pints of type O all over the floor. Having seen how shipped blood is packaged I have my doubts as to the authenticity of it, but if it did happen that mistake would be a whole lot more expensive than the one you made.

No, taking an extra 3 seconds to cut carefully helps prevent accidents, especially the bodily types.

My only mishap was with a rolled soft pack envelope containing a T-Shirt that my wife ordered for a friend's birthday, which was the next day. I sliced right through the shirt with my XM-18 3.5 skinny. I immediately panicked! But fortunately my wife already had a "plan B" gift if the shirt hadn't arrived on time. 😣🤢💩

I once put an inch long or so slice in the top of a new nightstand when I cut too deep through the cardboard box it came in. If it was for me I wouldn't have cared a bit but it was for my wife and all she could see was that scratch.

Anyway, long story short I am very careful opening things now.

I learned to be very careful opening boxes many years ago at my first job stocking shelves. Nothing worse than slicing through 3 containers of orange juice opening the case.

I ordered a wrench for work. It arrived in the mail I tossed it in the back of my truck. Now normally I carefully slit the seams an open things gentle. But for whatever reason a couple days later I hacked the plain cardboard box open by smashing it open on the edge of the dumpster at work. after all it was just a wrench. You can’t hurt a wrench. The wrench fell out onto the pavement.

The wrench shipped in the plain brown box was actually the Randall model 1 I had ordered 5 years before. Lol. Luckily no harm was done.

The only thing I’ve accidentally sliced is a couple water bottles when stocking the fridge.
😂🤣 I’ve totally done this before!! Lol

I always open packages like a Dr. doing heart surgery.
