Sharp Out of the Box?

Strangely the ones I've gotten that were super sharp out of the box were my SOG Flash I and II.

The sharpest knife I've ever received OOTB was a XL Cold Steel Voyager. That thing was crazy, stupid sharp. I've had good experiences with Spyderco also, their knives seem to be consistently sharp. The knives with the worst sharpening jobs always seem to be slipjoints. It doesn't matter who the maker is, new slippies almost always seem to need a good sharpening before you can use them.

Sharpest knife I've ever gotten OOB would be my Caly3/ZDP. Whittled hair easily.

I'd guess that since the Alias is designed as a low cost Sebenza and a lot of Sebenza's come with a rather dull edge, it's a feature?? :D

The sharpest knife OOB I've received so far has been a RAT Cutlery Izula. Absolutely razor sharp from the get og.

The sharpest, out of the box knife I've bought, would have to be the Protech Harkins ATAC. It's hair poppin' sharp.

Spydercos, Kershaws and RATs have all come blistering sharp. Most BMs have too, but one I got was stupidly dull. Buck has been so-so, but didnt take long to get um sharp. My Becker BK11 and BK2 didnt come all that sharp, but i got um sharp. My KA BARS havent been shaving sharp, but they took down some nice tree limbs!

I don't care if it's sharp out of the box as I nearly always reprofile the blade, but I would expect the serrations to come sharp which spyderco has done very nicely :).

At times I’ve had knives from the same manufacture come amazingly sharp and at other times not so sharp.

The sharpest knives I’ve gotten out of the box have been a spyderco delica 3, a case stockman in cv and a bench made 960.

Spyderco,Kershaw,AlMar & Mcusta are the sharpest "out of the box" knives I've ever gotten.Benchmade is a "crap shoot".Most are pretty dull when I get them, with the exception of the 710 & the 14205,which were very sharp out of the box.
With that said,I don't mind sharpening my knives when I get them anyway.

That being said, OOB sharpness is really not that important to me. Usually the first thing I do when I get a knife is change the edge angle and sharpen it the way I want it.

That is why I buy Queen in D2!
I know the OOB sharpness might not be there, but I am going to sharpen them any ways!

all of my case knives whittled hair out of the box... my yeller cv stockman was probably the toothiest, guess i have had a good run with 'em
my unscientific findings...
Yeller CV Soddie (easily one of the sharpest knives i've ever bought)
Yeller CV Med Stockman (real sharp just not like the soddie)
SS Russlock (about the same as the soddie)
SS Mini Stockman (same as soddie)
at the end of the day it wouldnt be a deal breaker as i'm gonna have to sharpen it eventually anyway:) can be disappointing though

Wal-Mart here was liquidating their Schrade knives a little while ago. I bought a dozen slip joints (340T) at $2 a piece, to give out to friends. One of the dozen was a USA made knife, all the others were Chinese. Ironically, the USA knife was dull as a butter knife, and the Chinese knives were all very sharp.

My sharpest knives out fo the box are Spyderco Manix & Kershaw (ZT) 301.
I also have an Alias 2 & the factory edge was good, but really nothing special, I resharpened the Alias with my Norton 8000 & a little bit of stropping and now it is a lot sharper.
I also have a Nimravus & the factory edge was good like the Alias, but the angle was too big, I have narrowed the angle and now my Nimravus is one of my sharpest knife, it is a lot better than out of the box.

From my experience the best factory edges came from Spyderco (I have several models: Manix, Delica, Lava, Karambit), but ironically my worst factory edge was on a Spyderco Spyderfly, almost dull:thumbdn: I also have problems sharpening it, it seems that the steel doesn't want to take a good edge.
Benchmade models (Alias 2, Nimravus & Morpho 32) were good but the sharpening angle is too big (especialy on the Nimravus).

Sharpest ones I've had out of the box, without a shadow of a doubt: Spydie Karambit & Beretta Avenger II. Both designed by WT. The chisel grind of the Avenger makes it even scarier.

I won't start with a dull knife, if I buy a knife online and it is not sharp, it goes back. If I am in a store, I won't be leaving with a new dull knife. Mora's 2000's are about as sharp as new knives get.

I recently bought three GEC's; pretty.... but dull as butter knives. Very disappointed. I could never buy another of theirs. They cut corners. Simple as that.

Sharpest out of the box knife I got was a Lone Wolf Harsey T2 but I agree with a previous poster that I can almost always get them sharper via strop or paper wheels.
