Sharpen your swedge?

Never sharpened a swedge.
On a pocket knife, why would I want a sharp edge when the knife is closed and in my pocket? (not to mention on a slipjoint trying to cut something using a sharpened swedge would tend to force the blade closed)

On my fixed blades, if I want a double edged blade, I want the full length of both edges sharpened, and would just buy a double edged knife.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on an OKC Old Hickory "Sticker" to use in Civil War reenactments, and Buckskinner Rendezvous, in fact. :)

I sharpened the swedge of my Ontario SP-2. I don't know why I did that — probably because the knife arrived so hopelessly DULL…
But I don't use this knife for batoning, it is too short, I usually baton with bigger knives, with 7–10 inch blades.

You are replying to a 5 year old thread, and the OP hasn't been online for a year and a half.

Regardless, welcome to the forum.

Randall knives claim to have a sharpened swedge, but the ones I’ve gotten were not really sharpened, and had no secondary bevel on the top edge.

More like a scraper than an actual honed edge. Same as the Bucks I have.

Very nice picture! A little off-topic, but I'm guessing your stag models are a Model 3, an 11 and a 19?
