Sharpened topclip Question

Hi guys,

I am sorely tempted to sharpen the clip on a sheffield bowie I just finished. One of the reasons I am hesitating is I am not sure if that would make the knife illegal to carry. Does anyone know if it would be considered illegal?

The other reason I am hesitating is it may thin down the point too much. Can one of you guys give me some pointers (ha ha, made a pun) on doing a shapened top clip.

Depends on your state but most states don't allow double edged blades. I was taught to form the clip on the bottom wheel of my coote after heattreat involves a lot of dipping in my water bucket.
 
The only ones who can tell you with certainty are your local authorities.....
who will usually advise against open carry of a bowie knife.....even if it's
technically legal.
