Sharpener for Christmas

I really like/want the Lansky but definetly want to save up and buy a KME eventually. So maybe for now I should get the Sharpmaker so that when I do get the KME I wont have a redundancy that I would have if I had the Lansky---Im so indecisive.--Anyone sharpened a 2 on the sharpmaker--thats the one I sharpen/use the most.

Yep, I've sharpened the 2, 7, 9, 14, 11, 13, 15, and 16 on the Sharpmaker. It really a is a good system and I use it for my kitchen knives, too. It doesn't take long to get into a rhythm and you'll have everything in the house sharpened once you get it down.

I just bought a wicked edge system for a christmas present to myself. From what i hear they are fan friggen tastic sharpeners. Anybody else have or use one? I will let yall know how it does.

Love it

I may end up getting a Sharpmaker myself. Price is very reasonable.

I have a Sharpmaker, and it will sharpen just about anything. If you need to do a lot of profiling, you'll need to get the diamond stones.

Don't give up on the norton stone, even if you're getting a sharpening system . I also used to suck with it , then watched the Jerry Fisk videos and got the idea , practiced and practiced and developed my own musical sharpening method . Then I figured up how to strop and now all my knives are sharp , some are very sharp , and a couple of them are literally scalpels .
Merry Christmas !

Anyone know of any videos or willing to upload a video of either of these two systems sharpening Beckers (preferably 2 and 14)-Lansky Deluxe 5 stone and Spyderco Sharpmaker----

I currently use the Naniwa Water Stones - and they are pretty solid once you get the hang of it, but they are time consuming. I tried using an DMT stone in EF, and it doesn't seem to work as well as a 1000 or 3000 Naniwa, but perhaps I am doing something wrong?

I may have to look into the Sharpmaker, though - sounds like everyone loves it.

I got a double sided diamond sharpening stone for Christmas. I pretty much suck at sharpening free hand, but I made my little Buck pocket knife I carry shaving sharp. A first for me.

Well, at least you stuck with it and had favorable results. I'd call that a win.
