Hi, would like to know what sharpeners or better what sharpener systems you use and think it's best?

Thanks so far

I use a Lansky diamond kit for re-profiling and a Spyderco Sharpmaker to maintain a micro bevel.

I like my Smiths tri hone system. Pretty simple design and you can get a hair popping edge on a blade if you strop it a little after using the finer stone on it. Its about $30 for the 3 stones and a bottles of oil.

I use the Work Sharp Guided Sharpening System with Upgrade Kit and really like it. With the GSS and Upgrade Kit you'll have extra course, course, fine, and extra fine diamond plates. You also get a leather strop plate. The sharpener comes with ceramic rods, too. The system has angle guides, and pivots to the angle of the blade when sharpening the tip. If you like to freehand, or want to get into it like I did, then this sharpener is a really good one to look into. There's a lot of YouTube videos on it.

All depends on what you want to do, for maintaining and edge a sharpmaker works perfectly, for re-profiling and restoring an edge that is too far gone you will need a system that removes metal faster. Lots of options to choose from, none are idiot proof they all take practice to become good at. I've used the KME sharpening system for years, its a cheaper alternative to a wicked edge and can achieve the same results, but much better than a lansky in terms of build quality and consistency in my opinion. I suggest you grab a cheap lanksy and a spyderco sharpmaker and practice on some knives you wont cry over if you fudge the edge up. Big learning curve to sharpening, any idiot can get a bur and knock it of for a sharp edge, but it will take time to get effecient at it, getting a perfect, even edge on both sides without losing a ton of metal every time. Plenty of good info and guides on youtube, check some out. Cheers.
