I'm sure the question has been asked before, but I'm new to the forum, doe's anyone make a good knife sharpener, for home and shop use?

I guess it depends on what you want to do but I use my belt sander for all my big sharpening jobs (like when my mother in law brings over her whole knife block.)

I've read and seen very good things about the EdgePro system. So much in fact that I will be getting one in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know how it does.

If you're just looking to maintain edges, I suggest getting a sharpmaker for ease of use and low expense.

HF 1 x 30 belt with 220 grit and then leather belt. Sometime I use a 600 if I feel fancy. I can sharpen a blade in about 1 minute. This is great for all shop tools and finished knives.

been thinking on making some fixture tu use a
1/2 inch belt sander
as a sharpener.
any body ever try this?

I have a Lansky Deluxe Diamond, and even though I am still learning (like 6 knives sharpened so far), I can get pretty scary results. Cut free hanging newsprint and slash cut free hanging 2ply toilet paper. Still got a lot to learn about strops and making one to bring my sharpness to the next level. Then, its learning how to do it on the belt grinder I'm getting or paper wheels.
