Howdy folks,

as you well know i'm looking into buying my first real knife pretty soon and with that, a sharpener shall certainly come along.

I've seen alot of votes for the Spyderco, and a few for the Lansky on this board, my local gun shop (which is also my knife dealer) carries the Lansky and seems to like it (unlike most gun shops, the folks at mine KNOW their inventory, and use most of the products they regularly stock).

Ok so the question is which would be better for sharpening, Lansky or Spyderco for each of the following knives:

KA-BAR USMC Traditional
Benchmade 710 McHenry & Williams
Benchmade 750 Pinnacle
Benchmade 804 AFCK
Benchmade 886 Bluestar
Benchmade 940 Osborne
Emerson CQC7 Tanto
Emerson Commander
REKAT Sifu
Kershaw Scallion

note, i'm not asking about which would be best for all these knives collectively, since i'd only purchase two or three, so specific "this sharpener would work best with this knife" would be preferable.

Also lemme know of the given knives where either one could do just as good a job.

I know this is a hard topic, but I could really use the help.

get spyderco sharpmaker. it will work very well on any blade and is not too much more than the lansky. I have both and if you want a lansky for cheap i'll sell it to you . I just bought a sharpmaker and don't see any reason to keep the lansky around. it works great on regular shaped blades but wouldn't work on recurve or serrations and a hawkbill that I have. if you are only planning to get a plain edge drop point or regular shaped blade the lansky will work well. but if you plan on getting different shaped knives then get the sharpmaker
