• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Sharpening A 7 to 9" blade?C

You're welcome. Yes, the rods'll fit just fine in the 40 degree setting, as well. I'd used 'em yesterday on a knife with a pretty narrow bevel, so the 30 side worked for that job.

I was doing a little more Googling, looking to see if there were still some of these out there, somewhere. Came across an archived image of an old newspaper ad from 1980. Some dealer, at the time, had them on sale for $4.99 (regular price: $7.99). Not bad quality at all, at that price. The rods alone are well worth it. Wish I'd known well enough to look for more than one set.

Yeah Sharpmaker are what, about $55 bucks give or take?

To the OP for hi-jacking your thead - I sharpened free hand with DMT Diafolds - my Junglas, Western W-49, Ka-Bar USMC and some no-name Bowie "kit" knife. All to shaving sharp too. You need a black/blue (x-coarse/coarse), a blue/red (coarse/fine), and a green/tan (x-fine/xx-fine). One redundancy - the additional blue side opposite the x-coarse grit dia-fold. If you try to get away with buying the single x-coarse only - you won't be able to use the aligner clamp if you want to use the aligner clamp for a really perfect edge as the height will change.
