I need to ask all you knowledgeable people out in the Forum for your advice on knife sharpening. Now that I have a very good knife I want to be able to keep it sharp!!!!
The problem is I dont know how. I would appreciate any help you can send my way so that I can get this sharpening business up and running as soon as possible. What would you recommend? Books...tools....videos...What??

Spyderco Sharpmaker 204. Buy it. Read the instructions. Watch the video. Enjoy really sharp knives.

This may sound silly, but with the modern thing of instant gratification, a lot of folks won't take the time to learn how to sharpen, hence all of the "gadgets" out there to assit one in this task.
My recommendation............purchase yourself a good quality stone, such as a norton fine india. Then got to your local Good Will, or a "junk" store, and purchase a couple of old paring knives, and practice on them, by the time they are sharpened down to toothpicks, you will know how to sharpen. I'm not being a smart*** here. Sharpening is a learned skill, and like most things that must be learned, requires a bit of a person's time and effort.

Welcome to the Forums Enigma,

You don't have to stray far to find basic sharpening skills. Click on the Links button on the upper right corner of this window, and click on FAQs. Look for Joe Talmadge's Sharpening FAQs.

Spyderco 204 is great, if you want to go to the next level, go for an EdgePro Apex. If you want more information, check out my review in the Review and Testing Forum. Hope this helps.

I highly recommend that you read "The Razor's Edge Book of Sharpening". I found a copy at my local library. The stuff they say in there about grinding relief is as much importance to sharpening as raising a burr. I have their Pro sharpening kit, and although being very close to returning it a few months ago, I have now figured out how to use it properly and I have VERY sharp blades now.
READ READ READ everything you can get and do get some crappy knives from a second hand store to practice on (not large ones, or you'll get bored.)
