Sharpening and using my MagnaCut Mule

I don't believe it is wired edge, at least not to any kind of wired edges that I have experienced before. It is a portion of the edge chipped off (which I still keep) during sharpening in my case, twice in two separate sharpening session. I have used the Mule lightly and infrequently in my kitchen since last time I updated here, not because I was afraid of damaging the knife but because much of the kitchen work was taken care of by kitchen knives that do the work better.

I saw people pushed the edge to 12-15 dps without problems. I may sharpen it again to see if the problem that I experienced was due to the overheated factory edge?

What you showed in your OP just looks like a burr coming off not the "edge" coming off.

It just looks like you made the burr big and worked it off.

You want the burr to come off easy, you don't want to keep a wirely foil of steel for your edge.

The Video and picture is of a knife I did in 26C3 "Spicy White" at 66rc, deburred amazing and had great edge stability.

This makes complete sense. What's confusing me is - why would this happen during sharpening, while still using relatively coarse stones?

We're not talking about cleanup with strop at the end. For me it was while I was on the 3rd of a 6 stone progression.

Can the edge chipping off while on the 3rd of 6 stones be user error?

If I am screwing up the knife with my technique, I want to understand why and fix it.
If the knife is defective, I want to replace it.
If this steel is just brittle and miserable to sharpen, I want it get rid of it.

Hey, Matt. I've not touched my only Magnacut blade. It's still sitting there in the box. But I've experienced unexpected results, not unlike what you describe, on another blade. I can't remember whether it was K390 or Z-Wear. I was fixing the factory edge and wanted to remove a lot of material, so I was using an aggressive 80 grit diamond stone. To clean up the edge with the next finer stone, a lot more work was required than I expected. It seemed as though the coarse diamonds were beating up the edge, rather than just cutting away material as I expected. That's the best I can describe it. The solution was to just be patient and go gently on the steel with a finer stone, rather than trying to hog off as much material as possible in the shortest time.

What baffled me is that it's something I never experienced with sharpening other knives. Is it because the dps I was aiming at was too small? Or is it actually normal to see a thin slice of edge (burr, like you said) coming off during sharpening? The thing is after that line of burr came off, The edge was not much sharp (so I had to resharpen).

Its just something that happens when you grind away at the edge bevels a lot with the stone etc, looks like you made a big one.
 
Interesting feedback so far. I used mine for about a month straight after purchase and really enjoy it. The edge came sharp out of the box and, after a few days in the kitchen it was due for some light passes on the sharpmaker ceramics. After that, I used it for kitchen duty, whittling cedar and live oak, skinning a whitetail,, and odd jobs around the house (boxed, zip ties, etc.). I didn't run into any trouble until I had to improvise and cut some tall grass to use as pipe insulation. During this the edge took some serious rolls:

Those shiny spots were not present before I started cutting and disappeared after 10 minutes with the sharpmaker (diamonds first, then brown ceramics). I think it is easier to sharpen than Cruwear, which already isn't difficult. The edge came back to hair-popping quickly and has held up after another month in the kitchen (gettingthrough poultry bones and all). So far no more rolls have developed and it had not needed another sharpening. No rust either. So far I'm impressed and really enjoy the steel.
