Sharpening angle on Buckcote Vanguard

I just touched up the edge of my Vanguard with the Buckcote surface. I used felt pen on the exposed stainless steel and eventually hit on the proper sharpening angle (more obtuse than I expected). If I held the back edge of the knife too high off the stone I could feel it bite into the stone surface. It was less obvious if I had the blade too near horizontal. After a little stone work I stropped it with green buffing compound. It now shaves left-to-right, but not right to left. I'm satisfied with the result.

Question: Do you hold your edge sharpening angle consistently such that you could tell a customer how to tip the edge. For example could you say something like: "For a Vanguard hold the back edge of the blade 1/2" off the surface of the stone." Of course you would give other tips for tuning that position, but it would help to have a close starting point.

Any other tips would also be appreciated.

Jeff,
Sorry for letting this slip by....

WE use a sanding belt set up in the factory to edge the blades... We recommend 26-32 degrees also on the TI series. I don't know that we have ever detailed the amount of distance from the stone to the backbone to provide an indication of the angle. we usually discuss it in relation to angles. I'll measure on one that is done and let you know for the vanguard what it is....
