Sharpening at the end of time, if you had to go into the woods...

Finding a smooth flat rock in the woods is not very difficult. You might have to look for no more than an hour, depending on where you are. Usually outside of desert areas, 10 minutes would do. While you probably won't be able to whittle hair, the edge will be sharp enough for most chores. Dressing the game will require the finest edge. Survival Bushcraft is a lot of fun... when NOT under survival situations. And it's best to practice them before you need them.(I never leave home without a flint&steel kit... and a Visa card.) Being able to start a fire in the rain when the temps are near freezing is a useful skill to have, even with a Bic. Sharpening your blades with available tools should be something every KnifeKnut has. Try it with an old beater... It really isn't all that difficult... if you can sharpen freehand.

This is my layman's opinion:

People make this issue way to complicated. V-grind works. 2 DMT Duofolds - Xcoarse/Coarse and Med/Fine will get you from A-B and can repair heavily damaged edges, or refine fine ones. Need something harsher? Use a rock.
