Reading these forums has gotten me interested in getting a plainedge Military model. There are only a couple of things standing in my way. The cost (I could afford it now, but there are also other knives I'd like to get, too.)

The other bigger problem is I hear 440V is a bear to resharpen. When I say "resharpen," I mean restoring the edge when it begins to get dull, as I never allow my knives to get fully dull. Is it really that hard, or would I be able to restore the edge on my Sharpmaker? Does it require some type of diamond-coated sharpener? (I must admit the only sharpener I use is the Sharpmaker). Any replies will be much appreciated. Jim

Hi Jim - with my plain edge Military, I nevere let it get completely dull (like you stated). I can bring the edge back using the Sharpmaker easily. Though I have heard that you can use diamond hones if you let the edge go completely dull - in fact, that may be the only way to bring the edge back!

Don't delay; get the Military now. Once you have one you'll possibly rethink getting some others. It is a superb folding knife, period.

Thanx, guys! I've kind of been waiting for a mid-sized version, or a rolling lock version, but...on the other hand...it is getting hard to wait! I may just end up getting a current version and in future get the mid-sized

version...(hint-hint, Sal!)

I've gotten mine _really_ dull and had absolutely no problems getting it hair-popping sharp on a Sharpmaker in about 100 swipes. Don't even need to go to the fine stones.

It is easier than you think to touch it up.

If you steel it occasionally you should be able to keep her nice and sharp with little effort. I even steel the non-serrated portion of my serrated Military with good effect.
