What sharpening equipment do YOU use to keep the Asymmetrical Edges on your Busse knives sharp? I'm thinking my Sharpmaker 204 isn't going to be adequate.

I've seen some questions about the "Handmade America Blademaster ProComboDeluxe Package" but so far no answers. Did anybody try this system?

Now I'm just asking... purely hypothetical, no blasphemy intended... Would it be considered a crime to just sharpen a Busse using a conventional process. In other words, give up the asymetrical edge for the sake of simple sharpening?

I recently acquired a few Busse knives and I am just amazed by their quality, sharpness, and general feel. The only problem is now I'm totally spoiled!

I use my 204, various grits of sandpaper with a old mouse pad, a old leather belt for a strop, and some type of strop paste or My homade blend of a polishing compound:D

Oh yeah the most important part.... Trial and Error;)

I think the Busses would do fine with a double flat or double convex grind, as well as the asymmetrical grind. Be aware that as you change the grind, you will have to remove a significant amount of metal until you get the edge centered with the knife. Maybe it would be better to special order one from the factory this way...

I would think a Battle Mistress would be suited for a double convex grind, and something like the Active Duty would cut like a light saber with a double flat grind. Of course, a double flat gives up the ease of re-sharpening in the field with minimal equipment.

If you do this, let us know how you like it!

i use a sharpmaker too, also paper and pad.
i don't believe for one second a free hand sharpening session gives you anything other than a symmetrical edge.
i also believe it would be of a convex/flat blend.
unless your knife is held in a fixture or you hold it absolutely perfect (maybe possible by jerry but not us mortals) you are going to round it slightly and go convex.
every time you take a swipe you may very by a few degrees, even dragging you knife on a ceramic rod won't be the same each and every stroke.
all my knives are sharp regardless of edge style and i don't even look to see what they came with.
i wish all busse's were symmetrical, it would make this edge thing much simpler.:footinmou ;)

I only have the one Busse right now. A CG BM. I used a Spyderco Sharpmaker on the flat ground side, and then a strop and buffer with rouge on the convex ground side. The hairs fly off my arm after this sharpening, without changing the edge profiles at all.
I would love to find the sharpening tips for the zero edge design as the MoFo LE I have coming in has that edge design. Any pointers on that edge?
