Thanks to Larry at Bladeart, I just picked up a T-1000 folder. It is truly awesome and confidence-inspiring, and carries very well for its bulk. The edge on mine was not quite as keen as what has been described in this forum, so I went to work with my Spyderco stones, using what I think of as the "Rearic Method" (freehand). I sharpened only on the steel side.

I have never had any difficulties sharpening anything before, but this piece has me beaten. After trying for an hour or so last night, the edge remained very aggressive (it would rip through cardboard easily) but not exactly sharp. Is this the most that can be expected of this kind of edge, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Hey Kevin, it's going to take a decent diamond rod to sharpen that Vasco Max edge. The ceramic won't get you anywhere at all. There's alot of good diamond rods on the market, but I use a simple diamond impregnated butcher's steel that my wife keeps in the kitchen for her good chef knives. The edge on my T-1000 was quite sharp when I got it from Larry, but I've since upgraded it to razor sharp using the diamond steel rod. I hope this info helps you.
The T-1000 really is a great knife, and I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. :)

Eric-

The diamond rod is a great suggestion. It sounds like just the ticket. The ceramic only made the edge shiny without improving performance.

I've only had it for a day, but already I love this knife. I must admit that it was largely due to your great review and awesome pics that I purchased it. So far it seems like money well spent. Thanks for all your help. :)
