Sharpening- Ive lost my mojo

Adam, when you set the platen to a specific angle are you tilting it forward or back? When hold the blade is it edge up or down? Are you holding it free hand or with spine on tool rest. I am assuming that the blade is held horizontal and perpendicular to the floor as the angle is set on the platen.

I sharpen edge up so I can see the blade edge. The platen is angle forward.

I hold the knife free hand with the blade perpendicular to the floor.

I use new belts to sharpen, only very light contact is needed as the abrasive does the work and keep the friction to a minimum.

oh yeahs, AO and 3V don't really work great. Ceramic works better and really isn't that much more expensive.
