I use my DMT Hardcoat diamond stone in fine and ultra fine to sharpen K390.
My DMTs have lasted for decades, which makes them a good investment IMHO. I don't know how other makes compare.
I have DMT stones from as far back as 12 years ago, and they are still great to this day. However, a month or 2 ago, I just bought a set of 6x2 continuous diasharps (XC to EF) because my older stones are all different sizes. Except for the F stone, all of the others have imperfections on the surface. The edge will snag on these imperfections and leave a dull spot. These imperfections don't seem to be diamonds, and they aren't going away after breaking in.Yep, if you are going to be getting into the "super steels", it is worth buying some diamond plates as others have mentioned.
I also use DMT. I have the DMT 6" dia sharp kit. 2 diamond stones, both double sided, so 4 grits. xtra coarse, coarse, fine, xtra fine. The set runs under a $100.

I can no longer recommend DMT diamonds
