Sharpening knifes?

I have never used a Sharpmaker and while I am sure it is good, stones are a little better. Once the Sharpmaker doesn't cut it (no pun intended), you are gonna want to upgrade, probably to another system. The only high end ones are over $300. Stones are cheaper and you can get a lot of different angles. A Spyderco Doublestuff cost me $20 and it is the same grits as the Sharpmaker. I got discouraged after watching JDavis get a razor sharp edge on one and my edge could barely cut printer paper. But, I kept trying and now (about a year later) my V-Edges will fall through phone book paper. Also, the Doublestuff is a great learning stone because you can easily use it one handed.
