glad you spoke up
i had a response re "bubba" half typed out then erased it cause i just dont have the patience
heck i call my son bubba

Thanks bro, same here, half my friends are "bubba" and the other half are "bro" My nephew has been known as bubba since he was born, so Ya I take a little more than offense that its thought of as it is in Wilkpedia.

boy howdy, just when you think you have it all down, someone throws a curveball at cha. :(

I'm gonna have to go buy that "BUBBA" hat I saw at the store the other day now. :p

How does one properly sharpen a recurve let alone a small one with a tight radius or a large on with a massive radius? Any flat stone would leave marks from the edge of the stone, the only thing I could see working is a small round or half circlular stone.

I have a set of crock sticks that work pretty well on recurves. Also those diamond sticks work well too. I have some stones that are oval in shape, called slip stones. I got mine at the wood workers supply. They do really well on those little hawk beak and incurved wood knives.

I keep same angle as usual in direction of sharpening movement, but also made small vertical angle perpendicular to movement and moving blade forward also slide it from left to right (or from right to left), result is similar to Spyderco sharpmaker first stage, but more delicate. Because of this slide mo marks developet on the blade. But of course contact with abrasive is limited and this is why it was so painfull to do it with Mini Uncle Mojo whith thick edge of hard sreel, so I finaly give up and I think at that point my stone edge turn almost bold.

Of course curved stone will be bit better - I just do not know any. Majority of sharpening stones made for chisels unfortunately - much bigger market. However even with round one it should be same slide to sharpen all radius evenly.

Thanks, Vassili.

BTW _ Sorry Dwayne, I shoulda quoted the definition I knew you were using instead of just the link. It never even occurred to me that you would use it in a derogatory way.

I edited my original post to show the proper meaning intended.

I owe everyone that reads this thread an apology. I, jokingly, meant to post that MY definition of bubba in this case wasn't going to be nice. I never meant to offend Dwayne.

It's no an excuse, but I did take it poorly that Eric wasn't given a chance to fix the edge before it was so severely ground on. It's really none of my business, but I do know how hard everyone at the shop works to please us all.

Once again, I apologize and hope we can all can let this pass.

No worries at all Chuck and Ted, the right info was there and nozh chose to just read the bad part, apparently looking for a reason to act offended. His non response to my explanation speaks volumes.

I cant comment on the first paragraph because I have not idea what you said.

Not true, every major stone manufacturer makes some from of slip stone. Arkansas stone, Norton Stone, Ceramic, even Water Stones can be had in slip stone configuration, you've just got to know where to look.

Its no wonder you had problems sharpening the curved edge on a flat stone, having the right tools for the right job is half the battle. You dont use a shotgun cleaning rod on a .22 rifle.

Well, no I am not looking for a reason to act offended. I was directly told that "I could splain Bubba, but it not be nice either" and I quote this if you notice in my replay. First I asked then I had this "hint". I did not even see this wikipedia quote at all - check posting time.

Apparently you turn situation on me again.

I am not sure what kind of response do you want from me?

Thanks, Vassili.

Vassili,

Your new edge looks great - I'm sure it's sharper than anything I'm toting around now. Part of the appeal of the Mojos is the recurve edge, and I'm sure a few people were shocked at seeing it straightened out.

From there, seems like the thread degraded because good guys were having a little misunderstanding. The swamp is about knives that work, and you made a few improvements to suit your taste. No problem there.

Think whatever you want to think, apparently you just dont get it. :( Your forever the victim, and never the agressor. end of story.

I called my son "Bubba Man" from the time he was born until he was 7 years old and wanted to be called by his real name. It's unfortunate that you decided to choose the derogatory meaning of the word (used predominantly by people who AREN'T from the south) and decide that was its only meaning. :(

What's that smell? Smells like a TROLL to me. Watch yer children.

With apologies to the "Bully."

I have enough of this - I put leatherman and mhawg to ignore list.

Thanks, Vassili.

Ok guys, this is enough of this, as I stated earlier Internet communications are delicate at best when we don't see others body language and other visual cues that we communicate with.

Vassili is not a troll. I haven't spoken to him directly but I am sure that he speaks more languages than I do and I may be wrong but I don't think English is his native language. I believe there was some miscommunication here among many very good forumites and that we should all just step back and relax.

I'm locking this thread because it has strayed too far from it's intended subject.
