Sharpening my Busse

Hey ya'll. I have read the volumes of Stamp sharpening advise. And I do not have access to a strop or steel as of yet. But! When it can time to sharpen my Badger (which has the asymmetrical edge) I used a fine stone and like always made it a point to alternate sides between strokes. On the convex side I just used a steep angle to make sure I got the actual edge and not part of the bevel. I got a burr rather quickly which from my experience is a good thing. So is a steep angle on the convex side OK or is it a bad idea that will screw up the knife after doing that a few more times.

You will just gradually change it to a v-ground edge. There will be either some loss in cutting ability or durability depending on what part of the curvature you grind the flat along.

you need leather! Kramer handgun leather makes an affordable strop made of horsehide (tough, durable)Leather is new to me also, but you can achieve unbelievable sharpness with it!

Bought a strop Today fellas. From Knifeart.com... Mr. Stamp... How odd that you would reply to a sharpening question. LOL. Truely though you are a hero to us all. What about using something like an Clamp type sharpening guide on a Busse? Only good on the flat side? Not usable at all? What do you guys think? And is there a (BEST) compund to put on my new Strop that INFI Just really gets along with? If so where can I get it. The strop i bought comes with a compund but I would perfer to have the best for my knives.

Use a compound for polishing. Use a ceramic rod as Busse recomends and then strop both sides following each side's steepness (strop steeper in convex side and strop less steep on flat side). You wanna polish off the burr created on the convex side. You have to do it "freehand" and make sure you dont strop too steep or you will dull the edge.

Cliff, Andy, and Jerry have been very helpfull. My scary sharp blades thank you all!
