Hi guys,

So I picked one of these up a while ago secondhand and it's now officially dull. I've tried running it over the sharpmaker to no avail. Is there anyway to get it back to the pocket scalpel sharpness I'm craving without investing in some pricey diamond hones? I'd really appreciate any advice that you may be able to provide. Thanks!

Use the sharpie trick and see where you are actually grinding.

The best solution is to get a diamond hone. If you don't mind putting the bevel on by hand it's only $20 for a coarse 2"x6" hone. Not that much for the benefits IMO.

You might try a 'system'. Lansky or what ever. The sharpmaker will take you forever and a 3 days to reprofile the blade back to sharp.

If you try to buy the diamond sharpmaker hones, make sure you don't put too much pressure on them. Lightly is best, or you'll scrape the diamonds off the hone. They'll still take half of forever and 2 days. 'course anything will with the super steels. :-)

Not necessarily. It's just that you should never let them get that dull in the first place. My S30V lasts forever, and my S90V twice that, but I still give them a rub down on the Lansky ultra fine every couple weeks just to keep it nice and sharp. :)
