Sharpening on the go

I carry an emergency medium diamond hone from harbor frieght. Beat on the whole set for two tears. They still work and I have honestly never used it on my own knife. Mostly for helping out others and fixed blades.

I tend to use the bottom of a coffee mug for touch ups and my kitchen knives.

I can achieve a better edge in 2 minutes with a coffee mug than many guys do in an hour with high $$ kits.

Nice! Now all you need is the black and then your interrupted diamond set will be complete! You will have many many years of good sharpenings with your setup there...:)

Which one is the black?

Technique trumps most.

I can hold my own as well. Freehand all the way and like shinyedges shinyedges stated above, it's all about technique!

I love my sharpmaker too. That plus some diamonds and a strop is all she wrote.

Now the strop is my issue. It tends to take away cutting ability after i sharpen. So I use it mostly to repair the edge in between sharenings.

I use a strop to squeek out that last little bit of sharpness you can get....

At home I use the edge pro apex 4, but out and aboot with friends who need knives sharpened I will use the dmt stones. I've had great success already with them and the strop.
