Sharpening S90v

Yeah, that M4 gets real sticky to the touch when polished but the S90V retains a nice toothy polish that just seems to rip into things. Probably my favorite of all the "S" class steels.

S90V is a very interesting steel in that way, it will fool you, you wouldn't think it was that sharp but it really is. It won't take that highly refined edge that some other steels like M390 will but it makes up for it in aggressiveness. It will cut like crazy and keep cutting, mind blowing aggressiveness.

M390 and S90V are my 2 favorite Stainless steels. :)

The S90V Millie I had for several months was the best steel I've ever used. ...having a LOT of experience with S30V, I had some idea of just how difficult it could be to sharpen of there were any rolls in the edge. If I used it AT ALL, I touched it up on the Sharpmaker, as per advice from Sal himself. I have NEVER had a knife that came close to it... OK, Swamp Rat's SR101 is real close.

Ok, so with the Edge Pro would I have to get one of the upgraded versions, or would the basic one work fine? Also what angle would be best for the blade for general cutting ability, I don't plan on using this knife very hard at all.

The Apex 4 Kit will have most of what you need except the Glass Tape blank, 6000 grit tapes and Silicone Carbide to level the stones.

However for just basic sharpening with no polished edges the Apex 2 kit is fine.

Just depends on how far you want to go with your edges.

I noticed that when I sharpened the para2 it got the sharpest out of all my knives, even the lawman is aus8. I guess that's just the nature of S90V.

Would you recommend putting a polished edge on it then? I know that is supposed to make it hold an edge longer, but I don't pretend to know all that much about steels and I know some perform better than others with different kinds of edges on them.

That's what I do and it works extremely well for me.

Plus once the edge is polished it only takes a min or 2 to bring it back.

I can't express it enough how aggressively this steel cuts. ;)

Sounds perfect to me! :D Now I just need to go sell a knife so I can afford the Edge pro for my other ones. haha

Thanks for the insightful input!

I have a video uploading now slicing through TP and if you turn the volume up you can hear how aggressively this steel cuts with a polished edge. I sliced through it very slow so you could really hear it.
