Sharpening Service Fail?

After reading the responses I agree with everyone. Yes it is a disgrace to butcher these knives and yes that is most likely what one would get with a commercial service. Total disregard for blade angle, temper loss due to grinder, nicked bolsters and wood handled knife. I would not be surprised if the customer would notice or even care. If the customer is sending his knives out for sharpening he most likely has no clue what they are suppose to look like sharpened (as opposed to us).
This situation is disheartening in many respects, sign of our times, sigh.

I truly think that is a hack job even for commercial sharpening. Using a powered grinder or belt sander is one thing, using it to put on ridiculously uneven and erratic looking bevels is another. I might expect to see that kind of result from some hillbilly or young kid that charged $1 a blade.

Just terrible. I have to disagree with user Final Option in that a person might send out their knives knowing full well what a good knife sharpening is about but has time priorities that trump sharpening at home. Still, those knives are just done for.

SteelStickler you may be right, however other than people we communicate with here on BF most people just are not into knives or sharpening. There are many threads where people complain that someone sharpened their knives and they cut themselves because they were too sharp. Also judging from the quality of the knives, they really look cheap, someone who buys better quality knives would most likely sharpen them or as you say would most likely know what good sharpening is about. Either way it is sickening to see this type of service being rendered.
