Sharpening - Sharpmaker vs Ken Onion Work Sharp

The sharpmaker is great. But there are alot of variables and easy to not get a perfect uniform edge or maintain a proper tip. I can get as nice an edge on my sharpmaker and a hand stone as many can with an edge pro. But it all depends on your skill and how fast you want it done.

With something like elmax or M390 you really need to take your time with it. I see issues for people with harder steels as they are expecting it to sharpen up as fast as AUS 8 or S30V and it takes alot more time. Patience and keeping an eye on the edge with a sharpie is the way to go.

I would stick with the SM.
Over time you will learn to master that thing and appreciate it.

Really not that much difference sharpening S30v and elmax. If wanting a guided system I would also consider edge pro also. Russ

I've just recently got some diamond stones for my lansky and I also have the worksharp. The worksharp does get it super sharp, and quick too. But I've had issues with the worksharp taking the tip off any blade I put through it. Not like breaking it off but just blunting it slightly. The lansky with the diamond stones does good but the results are very hard to keep consistent. With all the variables that must be taken into account.
