i want to buy some sharpening stones, there are so many kinds and sizes and grits! are different kinds of stones ie.. arkansas, waterstones, india&diamond. are they all the same? will they all work well? ive checked different sites some are verry expensive! will sharpening with fine grits of wet/dry paper do the same as comparable grit stones? where can reasonably priced decent quality stones be gotten? i use a 2 sided 1by6 diamond "hone" with coarse and fine sides. i know this is a lot of questions but im pretty confused when it comes to upgrade my sharpening setup. any advice would help tremendously!!! thanks willy:o:o:o

You might want to post this in the maintenance forum. Remind them that you are not a paying member and that the search function is currently disabled. There is a lot of info, fact, and opinion on this subject.

I started off with cheap diamond sharpeners, 100, 200 & 400 (<$10,- for the set)
Then I finished off on a medium corborundum stone (600) and polished on a extra fine natural waterstone (4000)
A few licks on a strop and the knife shaved.

You can use sandpaper, google: scary sharp

I made a wooden guide-block of 20degrees to keep a good angle. I recomend it.
