I picked a Gransfors puck with my recent purchase for 40 bucks. It seems like a handy, portable tool-although I am yet to need it. Recently, I saw a Norton sharpening stone at Home Depot for less than 10 bucks (larger rectangular). I didn't mind paying for the Gransfors steel, but the stone now seems way overpriced. Does anyone have any experience with the Norton stones? It was so affordable, I may have to get one and save the puck for travel use.

My Estwing branded puck closely resembles the Norton blue synthetic puck with a coarse and a fine side. Seems to work fine and is easily transportable. I think it was five or six bucks.

Update- I used the Gransfors puck to clean up a pair of pruners that had been abused. Aside from the fact that I still think I paid too much, the shape worked well, and I am glad I had the tool. No regrets. I may still get the Norton, rather than waste the puck on pruning tools.
