Belt grinding with a worksharp is a great way to take a lot of steel off... I've seen people recurve blades pretty badly... you can't put it back on. Paper wheels would be a better option if you go that way.

I find this to be true when someone isn't careful. A small amount common sense, not running it full throttle and using consistent draws through the tool make the WSKO pretty easy.
