Good Day,

My buddy has a Military that he wants sharpened.

I have had really good luck with all my other knives, getting razor edges no problem.

Is there anything I shoud watch out for with 440V?

Since 440V has good edge-holding, it should take a longer time to sharpen, according to Sal. But once you do get it sharp, it'll really cut well. I'm still waiting for my other Military to come in, along with the Starmate, both of course using 440V steel.

If you have a Sharpmaker 204, it would be a lot easier, though I find that using freehand sharpening works just as well, one just needs a keen eye, and a steady hand.

Sharpen it like you would anyother knife. I personally would sharpen it free hand along the same factory angle. It may just need a stropping, thats all mine ever needed(except a few exceptions), holds an edge beautifully. I feel thats it's easier to sharpen than ATS-34, IMHO.
