Sharpening with sandpaper

at the risk of bumping two yea old dead thread i have been using mothers mag and aluminum polish on my strop all my steels are either 440c or 8cr13mov and both respond really very well. i have never had my knife hair shaving sharp before bu a quick hit on both a naked and loaded strop and now my left arm is bare. im doing this because its cost effective thus the life of a college student right?
