sharpening with the bubble jig?

Any tips on using the jig for sharpening. In the past I've done it by hand, turned out ok but not a very nice crisp edge like a knife I would want to sell.

Stick a 12 degree wedge on your knife and run each side on the belt. Just like you were grinding in your bevels.

To, grind a secondary edge or sharpen an existing edge with the Bubble Jig, set the 10 12 or 15 degree wedge on the platen, place the bevel surface of the blade you are working on atop the degree wedge, set the bubble atop the blade surface facing you and set the bubble.
Remove the degree wedge from under the blade and you are set to sharpen or establish the edge at the angle you have selected. If you wish to place the bubble right on the bevel flat, put tape down for the magnet to sit on or you will scratch the surface with the magnet. Set the bubble in the same position on both sides of the blade.
If you are establishing an edge on a new blade, use a 120 grit belt on the first pass switch to the finer grits on succeeding passes. It does not take but a couple of passes to establish the edge.
I like to do this while the platen is vertical but any attitude will work.
If you use the bubble as your quide as you make the grind it will look like it was done by machine.
I finish all my edges on a diamond stone after the belt work is done.
Hope this helps give me a holler if you have any other questions. I am always happy to answer any and all.

Regards, Fred

We are working on some new video that will address this subject plus grinding swedges and doing a tapered handle on a full tang knife. We are going to do one on scandi grinds and some other things that people have asked about.

Fred We are looking forward to that video

Right on Fred! That should make getting clean edge lines easier.

I'm also looking forward to your video.
