If your in the woods and you don't have any sharpening supplies... how would you sharpen a v-grind knife and a convex edge knife?

What would you use that is provided by nature? Could you get it back to shaving sharp?

the world is my sharpener :)

almost any stone or other abrasive material will work fine for sharpening. you might even be able to get it shaving sharp if you have a way to remove the burr...something like alot of stropping on some pants would probably work fine.

I always wear a belt, so I usually use it to strop a knife, and since most of mine are Carbon, I can use just about any stone - I always get them to shave, the carbon steel is easy to sharpen, hence it is the perfect outdoor/survival blade.

Slate, mudstone and shale split very nicely into flat sheets. All are good for light grinding, especially slate. The other two can be a little soft at times.

Razor strop fungus.

Flat wood with clay smoothed over it.

Almost any flat rock will do and as mentioned a leather belt, boots or even jeans work well as a strop.
