Sharpening your ESEE

I just pick up the closest stone I see on the ground.;). Used the edgepro to take back the shoulders now I touch it up on sharpmaker if needs be.
 
Wet/Dry paper with a soft backing, then strop. If it isn't really dull, I will just use a ceramic rod and it will be fine.

Currently I'm using 3M wet/dry. The lower grits are easier to find, the higher I usually find at an auto supply shop. I do believe any brand paper will do the job tho.

How bad the edge is defines what grit I start with. Usually it's 1200> strop for my push blades and 600>strop for my draw blades.

I have even experimented with a 400>strop edge. VERY aggressive draw cutting but the edge degrades relatively quickly.

I started on a small FKN DC4 stone... took me a while to figure out exactly what worked best for me. There is no "best system" or way to sharpen, the best way is the way that gets YOU results ;)

Wow... you should have tested out the new edge on your buddies wallet or favorite t-shirt.

I am having to rethink my basic approach with all this good info... exactly what I am after. Perhaps just one stone that would do a decent job?
 
I just use a Lansky crocksticks turn box with medium and fine rods. Does the job for me and is virtually idiot proof. I can get the Izulas stupid sharp, and I can get my 6 "hair popping" sharp with this. Pretty cheap too. For really mucked up blades (I.E. not mine) and blades with chips, I'll start off with a Smith's double-sided diamond stone to get it ready for the turn box.
