Ive been away from this forum for like 2 years, just got back a few days ago and i see some great things! New people and new knife makers and sharpening gurus too!

So who do you think is making the sharpest edges these days?

Do you mean that figuratively or literally?

..using the term "sharpest" to mean "cool" or "hip" i.e. good looking?

..or do you really mean "sharp" as in the ability to cut. I personally shop for knives based on design and materials, fully expecting to do my own sharpening. I've never once, in my entire lifetime, judged a knife based on its out of box sharpness.

I mean literally. Not just makers but people who do their own sharpening as well. Alot of guys get real serious and strive to get their knives the "sharpest ever". Just curious whose getting there ;).

I can get a few to pop and split hairs pretty good but I know im not the best out there.

I remember when .25 micron diamond compound was still a closely guarded straight razor secret, looks like its out of the box now haha

Carter for sure for custom makers. For BF guru's, it's a toss up between Ankerson (Edge Pro I think?), Knifenut (free hand, I think?), and Richard J (paper wheels, I know for sure).

Jim Ankerson is putting some wicked edges on his knives.
Ever since I got my Manix 2 back from Ankerson, I haven't used it to cut anything but my leg hairs. I'm keeping it as a measuring stick to see if I can reach that level of sharpness.

No luck thus far:thumbdn:.

I put a little extra something, something on that bad boy for you before I sent it back.

I'll put my freehand edges up against anything.

That said, I bet you could see no difference in sharpness between mine or others. Once you're up in the .25 micron area, we're really just splitting hairs, no pun intended.

Besides those mentioned here already I'll add my personal choices of

Ban tang
230grains
Norcalblacktail (hope I got that right)

I believe some of us here have come pretty close to the limit of how sharp a knife can get or maybe hit it already.

I just want to know how ban does that sand blasted satin look, I drool every time I see it.

Jim, I agree. I don't really think we can get any sharper unless the edges were chipped away atom by atom with a laser.

You can get the brushed look with scotchbrite belts.

Nowhere near as good as bans, but the same idea to get a similar pattern.
