It's all in the title really, i realise this subject has probably been debated many times before on these forums but i'm sure some of you guys will want to comment on the sharpest out-of-the-box edge you've ever handled. FYI mine's a delica.

my cammilus arc lite came hair poppin sharp - and a close second was my CRKT polkawsi/kasper companion - i dont know why i seem to always get the dull ones and i've had a few (emerson, REKAT,microtech,BM,spyderco, livesay, gerber, crawford, etc) just my bad luck i guess, but usually the first thing i do w/a new knife is get out the ceramic stone and touch them up - and the edges(as they come) are quite sevicable, just not 'scary' sharp.....but that darned arc lite was SHARP, and the companion too.....

Microtech, CRK Sebenza, Kershaw, Cold Steel and Spyderco. . . And not necessarily in that order ! :D

I can't really decide which is sharpest: Spyderco Wegner; Spyderco Calypso Jr. Ltwt; and CRKT Apache(s).

my sharpest so far (out of box), in no particular order:

LCC/MA
calypso jr.
william henry evolution

all three were scary, scary.

regards,
bill o.

  1. Spyderco Calypso Jr Ltwt
  2. Spyderco Bob Lum Chinese Folder
  3. Kershaw Wild Wild Turkey
  4. MicroTech Socom M/A

Here are a few that were scary sharp:

CRK Sebenza
CRK Umfaan
MT Socom
MT LCC DA
MT UDT
Spyderco Military
Spyderco FB01

Many more......

Spyderco Moran, William Henry Evolution, Fallkniven F1, Dozier(all),Cuda (all), most Cold Steel, several Puukko's, All CRKT folders.

Razor-sharp out of the box:

Microtech, SOCOM Elite
MOD, Hornet
Cold Steel, Safe Keeper 2
CRKT, Crawford/Kasper (small and large)
CRKT, Polkowski/Kasper Companion
CRKT, M16-03Z
CRKT, M16-13
CRKT, Point Guard
Spyderco, Native (CPM-440V)
R.E.K.A.T., Utility Neck Knife

Dull out of the box:

Böker, Specialist 1 (Tanto)
Böker, Speedlock Standard
R.E.K.A.T., Hobbit Warrior (1095)
R.E.K.A.T., Hobbit Fang
R.E.K.A.T., Pocket Hobbit

Anything I have purchased new from Cold Steel has been scary sharp. You should see the patch of hair an LTC kukri can clear!

My three sharpest out of box knives:
Microtech LCC M/A - I'm scared to close it, the serrations don't like me.
CRKT M16 - Of course, it did go dull real quick.
BM AFCK - My BM's don't usually come this sharp.

Despite all the bad press about their factory edges, my BM 710HS came with not only the sharpest factory edge I've seen, but the sharpest edge I've seen...period. I've never been able to get a edge this sharp, and I've got a few that are beyond "hair-popping". It was better than the edge that came on my Spydercos, my other BMs, my Sebenza, and my customs. My Camillus Talon in 154CM also had an outstanding edge out-of-the-box, but not like the 710HS did.
Sharpness isn't everything, though. It was almost unbelievably sharp, but I still reprofiled it, because it was a little thick.
The best cutters (more important, IMO) out of the box were the Talon, and the Spydercos. Edges that were both thin, and very sharp.

For me its hands down the SOG S1 Bowie. I've never seen a knife out of the box with an edge like this knife. Nothing I've ever seen or bought comes close.

when i bought my benchmade accent it was very sharp so sharp that i could run it along my leg without touching the skin and it would shave hair:eek:

My Sharpest Knife out of the box was The Spyderco Calypso both the large one and small one!

AG Russell sent me some of his StrikeForce folders for evaluation. Edge quality varied a bit, but the sharpest one was probably the sharpest factory edge I've ever seen. Spyderco's Calypso Jr.'s are also usually insanely sharp.

Overall, my best luck has probably been with Cold Steel.
