Excluding a razor and Stanley type Utility Knife blades, What have you found to have the sharpest factory edge out of the box?

I nominate:

1) Mora
2) MAM
3 Opinel

My new MAM Operario sheepsfoot is a (thin) hair sharper than my Opinel (Carbone) Number 8 out of the box.

My Mora Classic Number 1 fixed blade feels just a touch sharper than the Opinel Number 8 and and MAM Operario.

I've not used or sharpened any of these. All were, however, dry stropped with no polish on a old leather belt as soon as they came out of the box to get rid of any real or imagined wire edge. (dry stropping a new knife is a 60 year old habit I can't seem to break. :( )

I've had quite a few Rough Riders and Marbles imports that would just hog hair off my forearm, but the single sharpest was my M390 lionSTEEL Bolus. It could shave a grape without drawing a drip! :D

I have to agree with Morakniv - I got the 3” carbon blade blank to make a wood carving knife with. Even after moderately heavy use, it is still the sharpest knife I have, and all I have ever done is touch it up on a ceramic rod occasionally. Other strong contenders, possibly even beating out Opinel are my Pallares Solsona knives, which have all come very sharp. My carbon steel Joker also came with a very good edge.

In my experience Victorinox knives come as sharp as anything and always come sharp.
I've had knives from Buck and Case that are just as sharp and I used to have confidence that every knife I bought from them would be razor sharp, but lately I've been getting knives that needed a minute of work.
Now Victorinox has robots doing everything while Buck and Case knives are sharpened by hand, so I don't mind but I cannot argue that Victorinox knives are always sharp.

I’ve got to say Buck for me. They always pop hair off my leg right out of the box. I haven’t had one yet that wasn’t shaving sharp brand new

In my experience Buck's are always sharp out of the box. I only have two Victorinox SAK's and they were both also sharp.
Case....they'll open packages

Varusteleka Jaakkaripuukko
Marttiini Lynx Lumberjack and Little Classic.

People aren't going to like this, but it is based on my not inconsiderable collection ;)

Basically, nearly all European knives, Japanese knives (Moki, MCusta, Ohta) RR knives from China are very sharp from the box and can shave arm hair no problem.

The European exceptions are Böker carbon Germany, they needed touching up but not much and Wright, England-who often produce bent blades ;) and they seldom have any edge on them at all and require 'work'. Maybe it's a carbon thing?

Most American brands arrive in varying degrees of bluntness, some GECs and CASE are decently sharp on arrival but not too many. Buck pocket-knives always seem to need sharpening but it's not too difficult, their fixed blades are good though as are most fixed blades from whatever country.

The sharpest knife I’ve ever gotten is from Fantoni in Italy apex wasn’t rounded plenty of aggression no pressure needed to shave. Other good edges I’ve gotten are from Katz, the old Schrades, and Buck.

The sharpest out of the box knives I've ever received were my two Otter Messer anchor knives.
I've had other brands that were acceptably sharp, but those two were very, very sharp. Almost "WHOA!" sharp...

That looks like an Otnat to me... I've never had a Bolus, though.
I've always assumed that the Otnat is a model within the Bolus series and the model name refers to the blade shape. (Reverse Tanto in this case)

Mike does not list the Otnat as a Bolus in the individual listings but at the top of the CK02 page he introduces all CK02 models as the Bolus Series. It's only an assumption but I think the Otnat is the Bolus Otnat the same as the Clip blade model is the Bolus Clip.
